Vols at SECMD

The tone around the Tennessee Vols football team has completely changed in 365 days, when it comes to SEC Network analysts.

Last summer, media members predicted the Vols to win the SEC East. Now after failing to win the East, at SEC Media Days analysts don’t have the most positive quotes when it comes to Butch Jones and the Big Orange.

Marcus Spears:

“It could be a lot of trouble on Rocky Top if they don’t produce.”

“I don’t know the psyche of the football team or the fan base. Fan bases get coaches fired. Fan bases tell you where are program is trending. I don’t know where they are in Rocky Top right now.”

Greg McElroy:

“The depth of the program is still trying to catch up.” (After complimenting the rebuild job Butch Jones has done).

“If you consider where the program was to where it is now, I think Vol fans should feel pretty good about the direction of the program.

On the Offensive Line’s combined 100+ returning starts: “A lot of those guys had 4-stars next to their name when they signed on the dotted line… that doesn’t mean that experience translates to production, or talent, or high level of play.”

Jordan Rodgers:

“I don’t even have them third (in the SEC East)… Where’s the identity?

“Bob Shoop speaks his defense in the language of calculus. (Tennessee) is in long-division right now, at best.”
