Two key Vols defenders went down with injuries in the first half of Saturday’s game vs Ohio. All of Vol Nation has been waiting on an update regarding the health of linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin and cornerback Cam Sutton.

Good news first, Reeves-Maybin has been listed as a starter on the depth chart for the Florida game leading into the week.

Notice the two starting corners are not named Cam Sutton…

A source tells VFL Insider that the Preseason All-SEC CB is out for 6-8 weeks with a fractured ankle. Head coach Butch Jones said post game that Sutton would miss significant time. Jones did not specify a time table during his Monday press conference.

The 6-8 week window of Sutton’s return would put him back between the game at South Carolina (Oct. 29), Tennessee Tech (Nov. 5) and against Kentucky (Nov. 12).

Jones said Sutton was the first and last person in the training room Sunday. Sutton’s mood is “as good as it can be,” per his head coach.

What does missing its top pass defender mean for the Tennessee defense? A tough schedule, starting with Florida, lies ahead.

Other injury news… LB Quarte Sapp tore his ACL and is out for the season. Offensive lineman Chance Hall will return to the practice field this week after being out since mid August after a minor knee surgery.

LB Darrin Kirkland Jr. (ankle) is out vs Florida, per the head coach. CB Justin Martin will be back on the practice field, as well as WR Josh Smith.
