The Tennessee Vols continue the media tour this week with the Big Orange Caravan event in the Tri-Cities.
When Butch Jones didn’t call the 2016 season a disappointment Monday at SEC Media Days there weren’t any fans to yell back at him. There was Tuesday night in Kingsport when a fan didn’t like one of Jones’s stats.

I don’t disagree with the fan. I also understand where Butch Jones is coming from. When he took over, this fan base would have been ecstatic with having 18 total wins over back-to-back seasons. But, the Tennessee fan base is tired of hearing Jones spin the story positively, while seeming to ignore the opportunity missed.
The SEC East was waiting for the Vols to take a stranglehold over the division. And, with two inexcusable losses to under .500 record teams (South Carolina, Vanderbilt) Tennessee let the dreaded Florida Gators take a repeat trip to the SEC Championship game.
Yes, Tennessee should have won eleven games last season, like the fan suggested. But, you can take another look at it… It could have been way less than nine.
Without Jalen Hurd diving on a fumble in overtime against Appalachian State.
Without 38 unanswered points to overcome a 21-3 deficit against Florida.
Without Jauan Jennings and Josh Dobbs connecting on one of the more iconic touchdowns in recent Vols history to beat Georgia.
It could have been eleven. But, it could have been five, which wouldn’t have allowed for Tennessee to get that ninth win in the bowl game.
Here’s another cliche for Butch Jones and Tennessee fans to let marinate: “Football is a game of inches.”
