The Tennessee Volunteers (23-2, 11-1) fell hard against the Kentucky Wildcats (21-4, 10-2) in a loss on February 16th on the road, 86-69.

The Vols were simply outplayed by UK from start to finish. The Wildcats were the more physical team and never allowed Tennessee to find their rhythm.

Kentucky had a clear game plan to run their offense through PJ Washington, who is widely regarded to be their best player. Washington finished the game with 23 points, which was the most of any player on the court.

In addition to a slow offensive start, Tennessee struggled to rebound the ball early and were out rebounded by Kentucky 10-4 at one point.

Despite Tennessee’s lack of execution, they only trailed Big Blue by six at halftime, 37-31. However, the start of the second half wasn’t ideal for the Vols.

Eventually, UK continued to the roll and led the Vols by 20-plus points.

But then Tennessee finally woke up offensively with 11 minutes to go and went on an 11-0 run, which cut the ‘Cats lead to 13.

Despite the Vols’ renewed energy, they weren’t able to stay out of their own way long enough to make a serious comeback.

The Wildcats ended up prevailing in the SEC showdown by 17 and showed Rocky Top that they still have a lot of work to do.
