Redshirt sophomore wide receiver Maleik Gray has left the Tennessee Vols’ football program, according to a report from Go Vols 247.

Gray, who has enrolled at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, signed with the Vols as a four-star safety in 2017.

The Tennessee native played in two games as a true freshman.

Gray redshirted in 2018 after playing in only one game.

Vols head coach Jeremy Pruitt moved Gray to wide receiver last year, before moving him back to defensive back during spring practice. Gray moved back to wide receiver during the early portion of fall camp.

Gray likely wasn’t going to see much playing time in 2019, hence the reason for his transfer.

The loss of Gray certainly hurts Tennessee’s wide receiver depth, but it shouldn’t have a major effect on the Vols’ 2019 season.
