Burton, 6-foot-1/193 lbs from Calabasas, CA, is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 7 player in the state of California and the No. 7 wide receiver the nation.
The California native, who is being recruited to Tennessee by David Johnson and Chris Weinke, has some interesting connections to the Vols.
Burton played at IMG Academy in Florida as a sophomore, where Weinke previously served as a head coach. After moving back to Georgia, Burton transferred to Calabasas in California, which is where UT legend Casey Clausen previously served as the school’s head coach (though his time didn’t overlap with Burton’s).
For now, it’s unclear if those recruiting connections will pay off for the Vols.
But there’s no doubt that landing Burton, a dynamic playmaker, would be a huge get for Jeremy Pruitt and Tennessee.
