The Tennessee Vols look like one of the teams to beat for a recruit who could be one of the best players in the 2021 recruiting class.
Four-star outside linebacker Zavier Carter, 6-foot-5/193 lbs from Atlanta, GA, recently told Rivals that he wants to “commit really early”, adding “I could commit as early as July, right before my junior year”.
The Georgia native, who is rated by 247Sports as the No. 9 player in the state of Georgia and the No. 92 overall player in the 2021 class, mentioned that he really likes Georgia Tech and Tennessee, saying “I am looking at those two schools pretty hard right now”.
Carter also told Rivals that UT is one of his “dream schools” and that there’s a lot of energy around the Vols’ program.
It’s obviously still very early in Carter’s recruitment — he can’t sign anywhere for at least 18 months — but it’s obvious that Jeremy Pruitt and his staff have already identified him as a potentially elite pass rusher.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Carter, once he adds some weight to his frame, is elevated to five-star status. But if that happens, Tennessee will then likely have to fend off the likes of Alabama and Georgia for Carter’s signature.
Carter, by the way, also has offers from Georgia, Kentucky, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame and South Carolina, so it’s clear that other programs are already intrigued by the talented linebacker.
