Tennessee Vols head coach Jeremy Pruitt is absolutely one of the country’s best recruiters.
Tennessee is a combined 9-15 over the last two years, yet Pruitt has the Vols firmly in the mix for 2020 five-star defensive lineman Justin Rogers.
In fact, not only is Tennessee in the mix, they’re “definitely up there” for the highly touted recruit.
Rogers recently told VolQuest, after his fifth visit to Rocky Top, that he loves Tennessee, saying “I definitely love Tennessee though. Definitely love Tennessee.”
The Michigan native, who said he plans to make a decision by this summer, also said that UT is “all family” and that he got a “great vibe” while in Knoxville.
Rogers, 6-foot-2/311 lbs, is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 1 player in the state of Michigan and the No. 1 offensive guard in the nation. The Vols, however, are specifically recruiting Rogers to play defensive tackle.
I don’t think there are many coaches in college football who could make this type of impression on one of the nation’s top recruits with the program coming off a 5-7 season.
But that’s the type of respect that players and high school coaches have for Pruitt. They know Pruitt is more than capable of returning Tennessee to glory. And they also understand it’s a process that won’t happen overnight .
Tennessee will eventually have to start winning a significant amount of games each season to land top recruits.
But for now, Pruitt’s reputation as a great coach is putting UT in the conversation for some of the nation’s best players.
