The Tennessee Vols moved quickly this week to hire a new athletic director.
According to several reports, Tennessee has hired UCF athletic director Danny White to replace Phillip Fulmer.
Can confirm USA Today report that UCF’s Danny White will be the next AD at Tennessee. They made him an offer he couldn’t refuse. He’s expected to start searching for a coach immediately. His hires of Scott Frost, Josh Heupel, Lance Leipold, Nate Oats and Bobby Hurley stood out.

White has several connections that could be interesting to Vol fans.
First off, he’s an Ole Miss graduate, which means he has an obvious connection to former UT head coach Lane Kiffin (currently the Rebels’ head coach).
White’s brother Brian is the athletic director at Florida Atlantic. He was hired at FAU while Kiffin was already the head coach, but one of his first priorities was trying to lock up Kiffin long-term (Kiffin eventually left for a better job at Ole Miss).
Another connection that could be interesting to fans is that White’s father is the athletic director at Duke, where former UT offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe is the head football coach.
I don’t know if Cutcliffe will be a candidate to replace Pruitt at Tennessee (there are rumblings that Cutcliffe is considering retirement), but it’s a name to keep in mind with Peyton Manning reportedly being heavily involved in the search for a new head coach.
Who knows if any of these connections will ultimately matter, but they’re interesting nonetheless.
Either way, this is a tremendous hire by Tennessee and it shows they’re committed to fixing the football program.
