The Tennessee Vols have a little more room in their 2021 recruiting class, thanks to the decommitment (and subsequent commitment to NC State) of three-star cornerback Nate Evans on Thursday.
— Nate Evans (@Naateevans) June 4, 2020
Evans originally committed to Tennessee back in November.
The Virginia native, who was the second-lowest rated commit in the Vols’ 2021 class, is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 21 player in the state of Virginia and the No. 58 cornerback in the nation.
It’s interesting that Evans didn’t mention Tennessee at all in his tweet. And his comment about NC State “remaining consistent during the recruiting process” could be a shot at the Vols, since this is obviously a situation where UT is trying to free up some room at the bottom of their recruiting class.
Recruiting can be a tough world for both coaches and athletes. There’s a lot of moving parts and sometimes tough decisions have to be made. I’m sure it’s never easy cutting loose a long-time commit, but sometimes it has to happen.
Tennessee now has 23 commits to its 2021 recruiting class, which is still rated No. 2 in the nation.
