New Tennessee Vols head coach Josh Heupel was introduced to fans on Saturday evening during UT’s matchup against Kansas in Thompson-Boling Arena.
Heupel addressed fans during a timeout (something that almost every new head football coach does at Tennessee) and he sounded a lot like former Vols head coach Lane Kiffin, albeit not as brash and arrogant.
“I cannot wait to be inside that locker room with our team, run through that T, listen to Rocky Top and go beat the heck out of the team we’re playing on the other side of the field,” said Heupel.
It’s wasn’t quite “singing Rocky Top all night long after we beat Florida next year”, but it wasn’t too far off.

Heupel has a lot of work to do to get Tennessee back to being relevant after the program (three of the last four seasons have ended with losing records).
There’s not a lot that can be in January. But one thing that Heupel can do is create positive energy surrounding the program.
UT’s locker room obviously needs a culture change. Maybe Heupel will be the guy that finally gets the team to come together to focus on winning games, instead of just wearing the jersey.
