No one really knows what to expect from the Tennessee Vols in 2019.

The last time we saw UT take the field, they were blown out by the Vanderbilt Commodores in Nashville.

A bowl game is the goal for the Vols this season. And that’s certainly achievable for a team that returns a lot of talent.

But will Tennessee be a fringe bowl team, or will they be a surprise team that wins eight regular season games?

It could truly go either way.

Vols head coach Jeremy Pruitt, however, appears to be leaning toward a more optimistic view of his team.

Pruitt, who isn’t quick to be optimistic when it comes to anything, said during Vol Calls on Wednesday night that he thinks Tennessee has a “really good team”.

The second year head coach was quick to note that he knows his comment “sounds crazy”.

Pruitt has been around plenty of good teams. He’s been an assistant coach on national championship winning teams at Florida State and Alabama. He absolutely knows, even before playing game, whether or not he’s coaching a good or bad team.

So when Pruitt says he thinks the Vols have a good team, he’s probably right.

I mean, I don’t think I’m going to argue with a national championship winning defensive coordinator. I’m probably losing that argument every time.

Vol fans should be excited about Pruitt’s optimism. Last year, Pruitt wasn’t nearly this optimistic — and the Vols were a five win team.

The schedule is a bit easier this season. Six wins seem like a lock. Seven wins doesn’t seem that crazy.

Maybe the Vols will surprise some folks and win eight.

Who knows, maybe…..nah, we won’t go that far yet.

But you get the picture.
