The Tennessee Vols offered 2020 four-star wide receiver Josh Downs, a UNC commit, on Monday morning.

Downs, 5-foot-10/165 lbs from Suwanee, GA, is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 34 player in the state of Georgia and the No. 67 wide receiver in the nation.

The Georgia native, who committed to North Carolina in February, reportedly runs the 40 yard dash in 4.47 seconds.

247Sports recruiting analyst Rusty Mansell calls Downs an “elite playmaker in space” who is “hard to cover”. Mansell also noted that Downs is a “polished route runner” that is “quick in short space and has great hands”.

The Tennessee Vols will have to be creative to steal Downs from UNC

Downs’ uncle, Dre Bly, is the defensive backs coach at UNC, so it could be tough for the Vols to steal him from the Tar Heels. But Downs also has a minor connection to Tennessee — he was high school teammates with 2019 Vols signee/early enrollee Warren Burrell.

Perhaps Vols head coach Jeremy Pruitt can use Burrell to help sway Downs to Rocky Top.

Tennessee currently has six players committed to their 2020 recruiting class, which is ranked No. 27 in the nation.
