2020 four-star defensive end/linebacker Reggie Grimes, one of the Tennessee Vols’ top recruiting targets, will make his college commitment during the upcoming season.
Grimes, 6-foot-5/240 lbs from Brentwood, TN, recently told VolQuest that he plans to announce his decision November 2. His announcement will come less than a month after he officially visits Tennessee for their matchup against the Georgia Bulldogs.
The stud defender is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 1 player in the state of Tennessee and the No. 3 weak side defensive end in the nation.
Landing Grimes is obviously a priority for the Volunteers. Securing elite in-state talent is a must for Jeremy Pruitt and his staff. If they can’t lock down players like Grimes, the Vols will never compete for SEC championships.
As for the driving factor in Grimes’ decision?
Stability in the coaching staff is at the top of his list. He also told VolQuest that while he’d love the opportunity to play early, he’s ok with sitting on the bench upon his arrival to college, saying “if I need some time to develop I’m good with doing that”.
It sounds like Grimes is going to go where he feels most comfortable. His official visit in October will be key for the Vols. If the atmosphere is great (which it will be), and the Vols look significantly better than last season, there’s a decent chance Grimes will choose Tennessee.
The Vols currently have 11 commits to their 2020 recruiting class.
