The Tennessee Vols just recently resumed workouts and they’ve already had a position change.
Jimmy Holiday, a three-star dual-threat quarterback who signed with Tennessee in December and enrolled in January, has made the move to wide receiver, according to a report from VolQuest.
This isn’t a huge surprise. The Vols have an extremely crowded quarterback room with Jarrett Guarantano, Harrison Bailey, JT Shrout, Brian Maurer and Kasim Hill all in the mix.
Holiday is the most athletic of the bunch, so he’s seizing the opportunity to see early playing time at a different position (the Mississippi native runs a 4.38 in the 40-yard dash according to 247Sports). It’s a smart move, with Guarantano entrenched as the starting quarterback and Bailey looking like the eventual starter.
It’s still possible, however, that we could see Holiday at quarterback. VolQuest also reported that Tennessee offensive coordinator Jim Chaney will have some quarterback packages for Holiday (perhaps the same plays that were used for Jauan Jennings).
I wouldn’t be surprised if Holiday also gets a look at defensive back once fall camp opens up. He has elite speed and I’m sure Jeremy Pruitt will look at various ways to best utilize that speed.
