Tennessee Vols running backs coach David Johnson is expected to leave Knoxville for Florida State according to Bruce Feldman.

This is potentially a big loss for the Vols, because Johnson has been key in Tennessee’s recent recruiting success in Memphis.
And if the Vols are going to be relevant in the SEC, they absolutely have to own the Memphis area.
With Johnson possibly heading to Florida, there’s only one choice to be the Vols’ new running backs coach.
Former UT running back and current Texas A&M assistant coach Jay Graham.
Graham coached at Tennessee in 2012 under Derek Dooley, but he left for Florida State after Butch Jones was hired.
Pruitt and Graham coached together at Florida State in 2013.
Graham followed Jimbo Fisher to Texas A&M in late 2017.
Obviously, Graham won’t be able to replicate the recruiting success that Johnson had in Memphis. But he’d at least be able to give Tennessee a strong recruiting presence in North Carolina (where Graham is originally from). And recruiting well in North Carolina is equally essential to UT’s future success.
Losing Johnson is unfortunate for Tennessee, but replacing him with Graham could actually be a win for the Vols.
Update: Tennessee is working to keep Johnson in Knoxville. Nothing has been finalized just yet.
