The Tennessee Vols already have a commitment from four-star quarterback Harrison Bailey, but there’s a good chance they’ll be adding another signal caller to their 2020 recruiting class.
Four-star quarterback Haynes King, 6-foot-2/185 lbs from Longview, TX, has the Vols in his top two schools, along with Texas A&M, according to 247Sports.
King is reportedly planning to visit Tennessee and Texas A&M before making his final decision. According to 247Sports recruiting analyst Steve Wiltfong, the Vols are the frontrunner for King’s commitment.
The Texas native is rated as the No. 14 player in the Lonestar State and the No. 4 dual threat quarterback in the nation.
While it certainly seems a bit odd for UT to have so much momentum with a second highly rated quarterback, it makes a lot of sense. College programs can never have too many quarterbacks. Transfers are inevitable these days. And projecting which quarterbacks will live up to their rating can be difficult — even for the best talent evaluators in the country.
That’s why it’s wise for programs to not place all their bets on one recruit to be the “quarterback of the future”. Sign several and let the chips fall as they may.
King is scheduled to visit Tennessee on June 7.
