The Tennessee Vols aren’t the favorites to land 2021 four-star cornerback Nyland Green, but they’re still one of the programs in the mix for the dynamic defensive back.
Rivals recently “ranked the contenders” for Green and they have Tennessee as the fourth most likely program to land the Georgia native, behind Clemson, Georgia, and Auburn.
Green, 6-foot-2/183 lbs from Covington, GA (Newton), is rated by 247Sports as the No. 3 player in the state of Georgia and the No. 3 cornerback in the nation.
Rivals noted that Green “likes the staff in Knoxville” and the “direction of the program”.
But for now, it appears to be Clemson on top for Green.
It’s easy to see why Tennessee is strongly pursuing Green. The four-star recruit is exactly what Jeremy Pruitt loves in his defensive backs — tall, rangy and physical.
247Sports national writer Charles Power describes Green as a player with “high-level ball skills with the ability to track and high-point in contested situations”.
Power also noted that Green is “physical at the line of scrimmage and can use his length to disrupt wide receivers’ releases” and “shows fluidity in man coverage and can flip his hips and stay attached downfield”.
Green, who has visited Tennessee four or five times”, told Rivals earlier this year that he plans to commit during the season, which means the Vols still have some time to make an impression on the elite cornerback.
