2019 athlete Deven Brantley tweeted on Thursday that he received an offer from the Tennessee Vols.

When I checked out Brantley’s recruiting profile, I was surprised to see he doesn’t have any major offers.

Typically when a player receives an offer from Tennessee, they’ve been offered by a Power-5 school. Brantley’s highest profile offer, however, is from Middle Tennessee. His other offers include Jacksonville State, Mercer, Southeast Missouri State and UMass.

Brantley, 6-foot-3/220 pounds from Riverdale, GA, hasn’t been rated by 247Sports.

The Georgia native plays strong safety/outside linebacker/defensive end in high school.

And judging from his junior highlights, he’s a very effective pass rusher.

Brantley appears to take good pursuit angles, he’s disruptive in the backfield and he can also drop into coverage.

It’s usually a red flag when a player that isn’t garnering interest from major schools is offered. But in some cases, it means a gem has been found.

I think that might be the case with Brantley — he has the look of a solid SEC player. Plus, I’m going to trust Jeremy Pruitt’s evaluation (he’s been a defensive coordinator for two championship winning teams, so I think he knows what to look for).

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Brantley quickly rise up the recruiting rankings after receiving his offer from Tennessee.
