New Tennessee Vols assistant Mike Ekeler has a reputation for being an energetic coach who doesn’t necessarily need caffeine.

“I wake up at 3 a.m. and don’t need a cup of coffee,” said Ekeler on Monday during a press conference with reporters. “I’m ready to go.”

But despite the seemingly boundless energy, Ekeler still enjoys a Red Bull or two (or more).

“I happen to enjoy Red Bull and that’s just kind of how I coach,” explained Ekeler on Monday.

So it should come as no surprise that Ekeler quickly bonded with one of his new colleagues this week over Red Bull.

On Tuesday, Ekeler tweeted a photo of himself with Vols offensive coordinator Alex Golesh, sharing some Red Bulls in Golesh’s office (which is equipped with a fridge full of Red Bull).

College assistants put in extremely long hours at the office. Whether it’s game planning, studying film, or recruiting, there’s always plenty of work to be done. I’m sure the burst that Red Bull provides helps those coaches fight through the long hours.

It’s also nice to see that Tennessee’s new assistants seem to have great chemistry with each other. That’s something that appeared to be missing with the previous coaching staff in Knoxville.
