Tennessee Vols defensive coordinator Derrick Ansley is reportedly accompanying UT head coach Jeremy Pruitt on Friday to California to meet with linebacker Henry To’o To’o.
To’o To’o is unsure about his future at Tennessee due to the uncertainty currently surrounding the program.
Ansley’s inclusion on the trip would seem to indicate that he’ll be back as the Vols’ defensive coordinator in 2021.
But that might not be the case.
The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman reported on Friday that Ansley is “in the mix” to become the new defensive coordinator at Oregon.
This isn’t a surprise to see that Ansley is an option at Oregon.
Ducks head coach Mario Cristobal coached at Alabama with Ansley, so there’s a legitimate connection there.
With Pruitt’s future at Tennessee up in the air, it makes that sense that assistants could be looking around at other options.
This seemingly confirms a report from Football Scoop earlier this week that said some UT assistants were talking with other programs.
If Ansley were to leave Tennessee, recently hired assistant Kevin Steele would likely become the Vols’ new defensive coordinator.
