Tennessee Vols head coach Jeremy Pruitt hired former UT quarterback Tee Martin to be his wide receivers coach because of his previous accomplishments as an assistant.

Martin did a tremendous job as USC’s wide receivers coach. And he proved to be one of the best recruiters in the country during his time with the Trojans.

But there’s no doubt that Martin’s success on Rocky Top in the late 90’s was part of the attraction of bringing him home to Knoxville.

Martin can uniquely convey to recruits what a special place Tennessee can be when everything is clicking. It’s an understatement to say that the addition of Martin will have a massive positive effect on recruiting for the Vols.

And it’s not just recruits that will be in awe of Martin. It’s the current team, too.

Wide receiver Josh Palmer recently mentioned that the room gets goosebumps every time Martin enters.

That just goes to show how important tradition is to the players on Tennessee’s roster. A large chunk of the team wasn’t even alive when Martin was making plays at UT. And the ones that were alive were too young to remember the Vols’ magical 1998 season.

But regardless of age, they understand the history and what’s possible at Tennessee.

And that bodes well for the future of Vol football.
