Tennessee Vols tight ends coach Brian Niedermeyer was likely the assistant that fans were least excited about when Jeremy Pruitt announced his inaugural staff at UT.

But Niedermeyer, who is serving in his first on-the-field role at a power-5 school, has proved to be one of Tennessee’s most valuable recruiting assets.

The Alaska native was instrumental in the recruitment of Quavaris Crouch, Tyus Fields and Henry To’oto’o — all four-star players who ended up signing with Tennessee. He was also key in five-star offensive tackle Darnell Wright’s decision to sign with the Vols.

As a result of Niedermeyer’s impressive recruiting skills, he was named the 247Sports recruiter of the year on Wednesday evening.

While doing a victory lap on Wednesday, celebrating Tennessee’s impressive 2019 recruiting class (which is ranked No. 12 in the nation, impressive for a team coming off a 5-7 season), Niedermeyer, who has become somewhat of a twitter legend, took a good natured swipe at former Vols head coach Butch Jones.

Check it out.

I’m pretty certain Vol fans would be ok with never hearing the phrase “brick by brick” ever again.

Still, it was nice to see some personality from an assistant coach. Pruitt doesn’t allow his assistants to speak to the media on a regular basis, which is a shame because I imagine Niedermeyer would give some fantastic interviews.

For now, fans will just have to settle for some fun tweets from the young Vols assistant.
