2020 five-star defensive end Reggie Grimes has the Tennessee Vols listed among his top six schools.

A notable exception from Grimes’ top six is Clemson. But it’s not because the Mount Juliet, TN native isn’t a fan, it’s because the Tigers told Grimes they’re “full” at the linebacker/defensive end position.

Grimes is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 1 player in the state of Tennessee and the No. 3 weak side defensive end in the nation.
I find it absolutely insane that Clemson can’t find room for Grimes in their 2020 recruiting class, but that’s what happens a program operates at that level (Alabama has also been known to turn away some highly rated recruits). I feel like Clemson would be smart to find a way to get Grimes in the door, but there are other areas of their team they obviously feel they need to address.
Grimes, whose father played at Alabama, recently told The Tennessean that he grew up wanting to play for the Crimson Tide saying “I grew up wanting to go there. Even if I don’t end up going there, it will be a place I can call home.” He also mentioned that he’s visited Alabama, South Carolina and Tennessee more than any other schools.
Landing Grimes should absolutely be a huge priority for Jeremy Pruitt and his staff. The Vols need to dominate in-state recruiting and Grimes is the type of player they can’t afford to miss on.
