Johnson, 6-foot-2/185 lbs from East St. Louis, IL, was the Vols’ second commit on Friday. Three-star offensive guard Javontez Spraggins, Johnson’s high school teammate, committed to Tennessee earlier on Friday.
247Sports’ composite rankings has Johnson as the No. 3 player in the state of Illinois and the No. 11 safety in the nation. In addition to his offer from Tennessee, Johnson also holds offers from Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Texas A&M, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin, among several others.
Johnson told Rivals last month that Illinois was “like home”, but mentioned he was still looking to take several visits this summer.
The Vols now have eight commits to their 2020 recruiting class. Johnson’s commitment elevated Tennessees’s 2020 class ranking from No. 36 to No. 24.
