Ryan Tannehill came off the bench in week 6 and has emerged as emerged as a team leader for the Tennessee Titans. He is playing a crucial role in getting their season back on track. He was also one of the heroes in Sunday’s 35-32 upset over the Kansas City Chiefs.
I think he is playing well enough so far this season to earn at least one more year with the team and can play a pivotal role for the future of the Titans.
It is no secret that the Titans will likely draft a quarterback in next year’s draft. I think Tannehill can play a key role in developing that new signal caller.
One reason the Titans have failed to have stability at the quarterback position is they fail to properly develop young talent. One way they can improve in this area is letting the rookie quarterback sit and learn his first year in the league.

Not exactly murderers row here.

Two of the last three quarterbacks the Titans took in the first round started all, or most, of their respective rookie season. Vince Young played in every game, but did not start until week three. Marcus Mariota started week one of his rookie campaign.
The Titans did attempt to sit Jake Locker his first year in the league. However, he was forced to play in five games due to Matt Hasselbeck’s injuries. While he did not start a game, I think he was thrown in before he was ready to play in the NFL.
If the Titans re-sign Tannehill, the rookie quarterback has a chance to sit behind a veteran and learn what it takes to be an NFL player.
It doesn’t hurt that the guy can still play, too. Since relieving Mariota in week six, Tannheill has thrown for over 1,100 yards and eight touchdowns.
He also played a key role in Sunday’s upset over the Chiefs. He showed that he can put the team on his back with the game on the line.
Tannehill is only in year eight of his career and has thrown for at least 1,900 yards every season. He would have thrown for 2,000 last season, but he missed the final three games with an injury.
Most fans did not speculate Ryan Tannehill to have a significant impact on the team this season. But circumstances are completely different now.
Not only has he helped save this tumultuous season for the Titans, but I believe he can be a key factor for this franchise going forward.
