One of the most frustrating things for a football fan is watching their team consistently miss tackles.
Fortunately for fans of the Tennessee Titans, they don’t have to witness as many missed tackles as fans of the rest of the teams in the AFC South.
According to Pro Football Focus, in 2018 the Titans had the highest tackling grade in the AFC South and the seventh highest in the NFL.

Nothing kills momentum faster than missed tackles. A third and ten situation that turns into a first down for the opponent because of a missed tackle behind the line to gain usually leads to the other team eventually scoring. Limiting those mistakes is a key component to a successful season.
I think teams take on the personalities of their head coach, which is why I don’t think it should be a surprise that Tennessee was one of the best tackling teams in the NFL last season.
Titans head coach Mike Vrabel, a former All-Pro linebacker, is an ultra-competitive, hands-on coach who wants his team to play with grittiness and toughness.
Year one of the Vrabel era suggests that’s exactly who his team is. In year two, they’ll be looking to leave no doubt that they’re the toughest defensive team in the AFC South.
