Butch Jones is a head coach again.
The former Tennessee Vols head coach was recently hired as the head coach at Arkansas State, after working as a “special assistant” to Nick Saban at Alabama for three years.
The Butch Jones era at Arkansas State isn’t exactly off to a great start.
Jones initially hired former Houston head coach Major Applewhite to be his offensive coordinator. That didn’t last long, as Applewhite quickly jumped ship to join Kane Wommack’s inaugural staff at South Alabama.
After Applewhite went to South Alabama, Jones then hired A.J. Milwee to serve as Arkansas State’s offensive coordinator. Milwee was an analyst at Alabama with Jones.
This hire didn’t last long either (eight days to be exact).
Football Scoop reported on Tuesday that Milwee will be joining Steve Sarkisian’s staff at Texas as the Longhorns’ quarterbacks coach.
Sarkisian was the Crimson Tide’s offensive coordinator the past two seasons.
This means that Jones will be on his third offensive coordinator at Arkansas State in his first month on the job.
Probably not the start to his tenure that Jones was expecting.
Anyway, I wonder at what point Butch calls up his old buddy Mike Canales?
