I have no idea what the 2020 college football season will look like. Or if it will even happen.
But I do know one thing — if college football happens this year, the Tennessee Vols will be a much-improved team that should finish near the top of the SEC East.
And I’m not the only one that feels this way. In fact, respected college football analyst Phil Steele, who has one of the most popular college football preview magazines in the country, agrees.
Steele’s recent SEC East predictions have the Georgia Bulldogs finishing on top of the division, followed by the Florida Gators and then Tennessee.
Here’s what Steele has to say about the Vols (via 247Sports):
“The Vols just missed making my Most Improved list in Jeremy Pruitt’s first year and went 5-7. Last year, they made my coveted Most Improved list (and won their last six). Pruitt feels they can play with anyone on the schedule and has a more confident team that is his best yet.”
It seems like the general conensus among analysts this summer has been that UT should finish third in the division. And that makes sense. The Vols aren’t at the same level as Georiga and Florida quite yet. But they’re better than Kentucky, South Carolina, and Missouri.
Do the Vols have the potential to finish higher than third?
But it’s going to require a couple of major upsets and I’m not ready to make those predictions just yet.
