2020 Tennessee Vols signee Harrison Bailey, who is already enrolled at UT, was elevated to five-star status by Rivals on Tuesday.

Tennessee fans have been waiting quite a while for Bailey to receive his fifth star (well some fans, some will say it’s irrelevant).

Rivals was hesitant to give Bailey his fifth star until the very last rankings update. One of the main reasons they didn’t bump him up before now was because they didn’t think he was mobile enough.

Apparently that’s changed a bit.

Rivals recruiting analyst Chad Simmons explained on Tuesday why Bailey is now Tennessee’s lone five-star 2020 signee/commit.

Simmons said Bailey “really improved his mobility”, adding “he became able to extend the play outside the pocket and continued to throw dimes on the move and down the field”.

The Rivals southeast recruiting analyst also noted that Bailey is a natural leader who is an elite passer and will “immediately challenge for the starting quarterback position in Knoxville”.

I have no doubt that the true freshman will challenge Jarrett Guarantano for the starting job, but it wouldn’t shock me if Bailey doesn’t win the job (Jeremy Pruitt puts a premium on experience).

Though it’s way too early to speculate who will start for the Vols in the fall.

Let’s get through spring practices first, then we’ll have a better idea.
