This time of year, there is article after article about schools offering this player or that player and let’s be honest… it’s easy to get lost in all of it. Especially when you consider that this is prime recruiting time for college basketball and football.
To help filter through all the clutter, here is a summary of the status of Tennessee basketball recruiting right now.
Tennessee Basketball currently has the No. 30 recruiting class in the nation.
5⭐️ CG Josiah James (No. 21 OVR)
3⭐️ PF Olivier Robinson-Nkamhoua (No. 184 OVR)
3⭐️ PF Drew Pember (No. 194 OVR)
3⭐️ SF Davonte Gaines (No. 208 OVR)

Josiah James is the headliner of the class. James is a six foot six inch combo guard who will have an immediate impact on the 2019 Vols. Depending on his play next season, James could only be on campus for one year, but Rick Barnes’ track record would suggest that James will stick around for longer.
Drew Pember is the hometown hero from Bearden High School in Knoxville. Pember is tall and lanky and should be viewed as a project for this coaching staff. He also has a fun and somewhat goofy personality that will allow him to mesh well with this team.
Davonte Gains has a fascinating story from his rough upbringing that I’ll talk about in another article down the road. For now though, all you need to know is that Gains is the perfect Rick Barnes player. He is incredibly undervalued and Tennessee was his only power five offer. Sound familiar?
Oliver Robinson- Nkamhoua was the most recent commit to the Vols announcing his decision Monday morning. The power forward is a three star on some ratings websites and a four star on others. Robinson- Nkamhoua’s commitment comes just days after Derrick Walker entered the transfer portal as the Vols look to immediately fill that hole.
The only offer on the table that Tennessee fans should be concerned about is for point guard Jalen Cone. Cone actually just finished his junior year of high school, but had enough class credits to reclassify and leave school early.
Many teams like Tennessee began to pursue Cone and persuade him to reclassify. Cone announced last week that he will reclassify and enter college early. He will make his decision on Thursday.
I will announce my decision Thursday (May 9th) at 3:45pm @ Walkertown High School and it is open to the public! My decision will also be televised on Spectrum Sports, WXII News 12, and Fox8 News! #MyDecision full video here https://t.co/BdcjeFzfc8 @GameofInchesHS pic.twitter.com/7vkXgw2mw9

Cone would be a huge signee for the Vols and would play a lot of minutes as a freshman following the loss of Jordan Bone.
The only 2020 commit right now is a huge one. Corey Walker is a four-star small forward out of Jacksonville Florida who committed the day after Tennessee blew out Kentucky in Knoxville.
As it stands right now, Walker is the sixth highest rated recruit ever to come to Rocky Top.
Tennessee has offered 15 other players in the class of 2020. In all reality, the ability to capitalize on some of the top players is still in question. It will all come down to how this team performs next season.
