The Tennessee Titans officially won the Jadeveon Clowney sweepstakes this past weekend after signing the three-time Pro-Bowl edge rusher to a one year deal that could be worth up to $15 million.
Clowney signed with the Titans in large part due to the presence of head coach Mike Vrabel.
Vrabel was Clowney’s defensive coordinator/linebackers coach with the Houston Texans from 2014-2017 (Vrabel was the linebackers coach from 2014-2016, he served as the Texans’ defensive coordinator in 2017).
“I called Johnathan Joseph before I made my decision and he told me this is a defense that flies around. I said ‘if I know one thing about Vrabel, he’s going to have guys that play fast to the ball. That’s something I need to be a part of” – Clowney #Titans

The presence of Vrabel, however, wasn’t the only reason Clowney signed with the Titans. He was also heavily recruited by Titans players, including star offensive lineman Taylor Lewan, who made it known, via Twitter, that Clowney was badly wanted in Nashville.

Clowney said on Thursday that the tweets from Lewan and others “did not go unnoticed”.
Clowney said that the Twitter recruitment by several players, including #Titans Taylor Lewan and Will Compton, “did not go unnoticed” and said he “appreciated” guys around the league reaching out. Said he wanted to make sure he found the right fit.

The marriage between Clowney and the Titans is a win-win for all parties. Clowney is happy, Vrabel is happy, Lewan is happy and Titans fans are absolutely happy.
