Preds SCP moments

The Preds took a stranglehold on the city of Nashville for nearly two whole months and gave the community a summer that will never be forgotten.

The Predators came two wins away from winning the Stanley Cup. And, even if the organization gets the chance to skate around the Cup in victory, this Summer of 2017 will always be remembered for how the city of Nashville united behind an underdog.

Here are my top five unforgettable moments of a playoff run, that ended with a 16-seed two wins away from history.

Preds’ Stanley Cup Playoff Moments

5) James Neal’s overtime game-winner – Game 1, Western Conference Finals

Nashville had gotten to its first Western Conference Finals… And the magic of this playoff run continued with a third straight Game 1 win on the road. However, this one game with extra drama. The Ducks tied the game 2-2 in the third period to force OT. Nearly halfway through the extra frame, P.K. Subban faked a shot from the point, slide the pass to his right and James Neal blasted it home after it bounced off hated Duck, Corey Perry.

To make the moment better, I found a highlight of the goal with Celine Deon’s ‘My Heart Will Go On’.

4) Josi and Freddy Hockey make Smashville roar – Game 3, Stanley Cup Final

It was the first EVER Stanley Cup Final game in Nashville. The Preds returned from Pittsburgh down 0-2 in the series. Subban guaranteed a win after his team noticeably outplayed the Penguins despite losing both games.

Then, the Preds got down 1-0 less than three minutes into the game. But, early in the second period, Roman Josi and youngster Freddy Gaudreau scored 42-seconds apart to give Nashville a 2-1 lead that it wouldn’t surrender.

James Neal made it 3-1 later that period and Nashville completed the domination to a 5-1 score. The Preds were on the board in the series.

3) Arvy Hustle’s Breakaway – Game 4, Stanley Cup Final

Speaking of “TURNT”, Bridgestone Arena lost it’s collective mind when Viktor Arvidsson buried his breakaway goal in the second period of Game 4. That made the score 3-1, and the Preds went on to tie the series 2-2 with a second blowout home win, 4-1.

Arvy’s reaction makes this moment even more special.

2) Aberg’s soaring goal gives the Preds new life – Game 5, Western Conference Finals

This might not be from the Stanley Cup Final, but this moment gave Smashville a new belief.

The Preds’ fan base was as down as it could be. The team lost its first home playoff game all year (in overtime, mind you). Then, star center Ryan Johansen was ruled “out for the playoffs” after undergoing an emergency surgery for Acute Compartment Syndrome hours after the loss.

What the hell now? The Preds were headed back to Anaheim to face the Ducks in a pivotal Game 5 in a tied 2-2 series, without their best offensive weapon. Doom and gloom was felt around Nashville.

Deep into the third period, a new hero answered the bell. Pontus Aberg broke the 1-1 tie with a leaping, soaring goal in front of the net to give the Preds the lead. Later, an empty net goal sealed the 3-1 win, and the 3-2 series lead.

1) Pekka Rinne’s save of his life – Game 4, Stanley Cup Final

The Preds had just taken a 2-1 lead in the second period and goalie Pekka Rinne was under siege. The Penguins already scored a goal from a Sidney Crosby breakaway, in the first, and they were attacking again. Rinne made the most incredible save of the entire Stanley Cup Playoffs with this championship effort.

The save was so good, the play-by-play call went viral in multiple languages… You can watch/hear the call in Rinne’s first language, Finnish.

Honorable Mentions:

Kevin Fiala’s overtime goal in Game 3 of the Chicago Blackhawks’ series.

Colton Sission’s hat trick to close out the Ducks in Game 6.
