The Nashville Predators pulled off a nice road win in Vegas yesterday, beating the Golden Knights 2-1 behind a fantastic effort from goalie Juuse Saros. He had a career high 47 saves, fueling the win after Ryan Johansen and Nick Bonino scored in the 2nd period.

But a strange incident in the 2nd period overshadowed all of that.

Late in the period with the Preds up 2-1, a scrum occurred in front of Saros involving Subban, Pierre-Edouard Bellemare, Ryan Reaves and a few others. During the incident, Subban began waving his hand wildly and appeared the mouth the words “he just bit me” to the refs.

Here was video of the alleged bite:

It certainly looks like Bellemare chomped down as Subban was wrestling his head away during the scrum. And Subban’s bleeding hand can only be explained by Bellemare biting him.

Here was Subban after the game, speaking to media:

“I mean, he bit me. My finger was bleeding. All I tried to do was grab him. I grabbed him by his head to pull him up and he bit me. That’s it.”

Refs gave Subban four minutes of penalties after the play, including a roughing call and an unsportsmanlike. There was no explanation given as to why Subban was penalized but Bellemare wasn’t.

“I don’t know what to say. I don’t know how I walk out of there with four minutes in penalties. It wasn’t explained.”

Subban seemed to want to move on after the game, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Bellemare hears from the league. Last season, Brad Marchand was seen licking Ryan Callahan in the middle of a scrum and the NHL told him to stop licking people. Hopefully they feel as strongly about biting as they do about licking.

Meanwhile on the ice, the Predators picked up a very impressive road win and now head to the All-Star break on a two game winning streak.
