The Tennessee Vols have a tough non-conference game on their hands early in the 2020 season.

After opening the season at home on September 5 against UNC-Charlotte, the Vols will travel to Norman, OK to take on the Oklahoma Sooners on September 12.

The Sooners are coming off an appearance in the College Football Playoff, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that they’re already the betting favorites in the matchup against UT.

But the betting line isn’t as wide as you might expect.

Oklahoma is only a seven point favorite.

A year ago this felt like an unwinnable game for Tennessee. But suddenly, with the Vols riding a six game winning streak, an upset win on the road against the Sooners isn’t out of the question.

Oklahoma is losing plenty of talent from their 2019 College Football Playoff squad. Quarterback Jalen Hurts is out of eligibility, which means he’s off to the NFL. Star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and stud linebacker Kenneth Murray are also gone.

I’m still not expecting a Vols win on September 12. It would be foolish to make that sort of prediction.

But I also wouldn’t be shocked if an upset happened.

And apparently neither would the oddsmakers.
