Things are looking up for the Nashville Predators.

Not only are they suddenly riding a two game winning streak. Not only has their offense exploded for nine goals in the last five periods of hockey. And not only have goalies Pekka Rinne and Juuse Saros put up excellent performances recently,

Soon they will be getting some important players back in the lineup.

This means guys like Filip Forsberg, Colton Sissons, and Yannick Weber could be back on the ice as soon as next week.

Here’s some quiick updates on where things are at with the players currently on injured reserve.

Filip Forsberg

  • David Poile indicated yesterday on a local radio show that Forsberg would travel with the team on the road trip, but he would probably not play this week.
  • Forsberg has been skating for at least the last week. He was in a non-contact jersey on Thursday.
  • Forsberg has been out since December 1st with an apparent hand injury. His time table was 4-6 weeks.

Traveling with the team and being available to return is a very good thing. Though the offense has looked better recently, the team could really use a player like Forsberg back in the lineup. He simply does things that no other player on the ice can do.

The update from Poile tells me that he could either be back in Toronto next Tuesday or Chicago next Thursday.

Colton Sissons

  • Sissons skated in practice on Thursday and was in a regular jersey (full contact).
  • Sissons injured his right ankle on December 19th. The team did not give an official report or time table for return.

The fact that Sissons is skating in a regular jersey for practice, and presumably traveling with the team on the road trip, is also very good news. The ankle injury he suffered against the Blackhawks did not look good, but apparently it wasn’t as bad as we thought.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw Sissons back in action in either Detroit (Friday) or Montreal (Saturday).

Yannick Weber

  • Weber skated on Thursday in a non-contact jersey.
  • We don’t know the nature of Weber’s injury.

Weber is kind of a mystery. There has been nothing from the Preds on what his injury could be or how long he will be out. It’s probably good news that he is skating though.

Speaking of mystery, we also don’t know about Kyle Turris. He was seen with a walking boot on his left foot a few days ago. I’d say it will be at least a week or two for him.

Overall, this is very good news for the Nashville Predators. After the team puttered through the month of December with only a 6-7-1 record, it seems like things are looking up. With improved play on the ice and a return of some key players, it might not be long before this team returns to the level of play we expect out of a Stanley Cup contender.
