The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders are looking for a new head basketball coach for the first time since 2002.
Kermit Davis, who took over at Middle Tennessee in 2002 after stints as a head coach at Idaho (twice) and Texas A&M, was hired by Ole Miss to replace Andy Kennedy.
During Davis’ 16 years with the Blue Raiders, he led the program to three NCAA tournament appearances. In 2016, Middle Tennessee, as a No. 15 seed, upset the No. 2 seeded Michigan State Spartans in the first round of the tournament.
It won’t be easy for athletic director Chris Massaro to replace Davis. The Blue Raiders won at least 24 games in six of their last seven seasons under Davis.
Fortunately for Middle Tennessee, there are several quality options that could replace Davis in Murfreesboro next season.
