Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart praised the Tennessee Vols this week while simultaneously dissing the Auburn Tigers.
On Monday, Smart spoke with reporters ahead of Georgia’s upcoming matchup with Tennessee, which is scheduled for Saturday afternoon in Athens.
Smart was asked by a reporter to compare Tennessee and Auburn. The Bulldogs’ head coach gave a lengthy answer that culminated with him saying “they’re (UT) just better right now than where Auburn is”.
Here’s video of his full comments.

That’s a very candid assessment. Most head coaches won’t straight up say that one opponent is better than the other.
Of course, this might have something to do with Smart’s rivalry with Gus Malzahn. Just last week, Smart criticized Malzahn for his excessive “coach speak”.

Georgia ended up beating Auburn 27-6 this past weekend.
As far as Tennessee being better than Auburn? It’s still a bit early to say that. I need to see more from both teams before making that call.
Or we can just wait until November 21, when Tennessee travels to Auburn.
For once, Vol fans will be hoping Kirby Smart is proved right.
