At some point you just have to laugh if you’re a fan of the Tennessee Vols.
The lasting impression of the Butch Jones era at Tennessee is undoubtedly his uncanny ability to under develop players.
Kahlil McKenzie, who was rated by some recruiting services as the top 2015 recruit in the nation, failed to impress during his time under Jones at Tennessee. But the Kansas City Chiefs saw enough potential in his game film to select him in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

The former Vol was a defensive tackle in college, but he’ll play guard in the NFL, thanks to his impressive pro-day workouts.
Chiefs general manager Brett Veach recently told the Kansas City Star “This kid is going to look like a first-round pick. He is an impressive player”.
Veach added “He’s a draftable talent just as a defensive lineman, and he would certainly be on an NFL roster this coming fall if he just played defensive line”.
If Veach is correct and McKenzie ends up looking like a first round pick, it would be the most Tennessee thing ever.
It’s truly incredible how much talent Jones had in 2015/16 and how little he managed to do with it.
I guess that’s why he’s working as an intern at Alabama now.
