Wednesday morning has been busy for new Tennessee Vols head coach Jeremy Pruitt.

Not only did he get a re-committment from 4-star WR Alontae Taylor, but Pruitt signed a very important member of his new staff.

LSU General Manager Austin Thomas will join Pruitt’s Tennessee staff, per 247 Sports’ Patrick Brown. The report says the Middle Tennessee native, Thomas will have a similar role with the Vols.

Thomas has spent five years with LSU after stops at USC and Bowling Green. He earned his masters degree from Tennessee and was a graduate assistant under Phil Fulmer and Lane Kiffin. He then followed Kiffin and Ed Orgeron to USC.

At one point, Austin Thomas ranked inside 247 Sports’ Top 15 recruiters in the country, despite not actually being a coach.

According to 247 Sports, Thomas helped the Tigers land three-straight Top 5 recruiting classes from 2014-2016. He was the key piece to LSU landing 5-star Safety Jacoby Stevens from Murfreesboro in 2017. You can read more about that later here.

The 31-year old is known as one of the brightest young minds in college football and cut his path as a recruiting intern, director of player personnel and now as a General Manager. The College GM role is rare in the college football world today as Thomas was one of two in the country with that title and the first ever in the SEC.

For more insight on Thomas, here’s Barton Simmons’ profile written on Thomas for 247 Sports – including how he got Jacoby Stevens.
