Before the Vols can head to Lexington on Saturday, Tennessee has to take down South Carolina tonight at home which shouldn’t be a tall order.

His optimism is well warranted. Not only did the Vols win by 22 in their last meeting with the Gamecocks, but they did so without Jordan Bowden who is always a threat to drop 15-20 points. This win also came right off of South Carolina’s hot streak at the beginning of SEC play. South Carolina has since come back down to earth and is 3-3 in their last six games.

Tennessee has also been a big win against the spread during their 18 game win streak. 15.5 points is a bit steep, but it’s hard to bet against a team that has gone 11-6-1 against the spread during this run.

The over/ under is ranging between 150 and 154 points (depending on what book you use) which is pretty high, but it should be. Tennessee has the fifth best offense in the country while South Carolina’s defense has been out-of-sorts lately.

The over has also hit in eight of South Carolina’s last 11 games. So assuming the Vols will be allowed to put up a lot of points and South Carolina’s over streak continues, the over as well as Tennessee ATS, both seem like very tempting bets.

The only issue that could potentially pop up is if Tennessee overlooks the Gamecocks as they see Kentucky in the distance. The Widcats got caught doing that against LSU Wednesday night and not only didn’t cover the eight-point spread, but also didn’t even win.

Can the Vols keep their sights on what’s in front of them and not fall into a trap game? That’s all up to Rick Barnes to keep his team focused. And if you trust Rick Barnes, then you trust the Vols to cover.
