It might not be regular season football, but after six months of talking about free agent additions and draftees, it sure is nice to have pre-season NFL on the television.

Several former Tennessee Vols were in action on Thursday night. Collectively, they had a heck of a night.

Josh Dobbs, who is battling for a spot on the Pittsburgh Steelers’ roster with Mason Rudolph and Landry Jones, had a solid night, completing 9-of-13 passes for 91 yards and this beautiful touchdown.

Dobbs’ teammate, Cam Sutton (who was at Tennessee the same years as Dobbs) accounted for one of the Steelers’ two interceptions on Thursday night.

(Former Vol Justin Hunter didn’t fare quite as well for the Steelers, catching only one pass for four yards.)

Cordarrelle Patterson, who was traded to the New England Patriots during the off-season, had the highlight of the night with a circus like catch on the sideline. Patterson finished the game with two receptions for 38 yards.

John Kelly, who was drafted in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams, had himself a fantastic night, rushing 13 times for 77 yards.

Check out this impressive run by the rookie.

Rams head coach Sean McVay was complimentary of Kelly after the game, saying “He’s a physical, violent finisher, which are the reasons we like him so much coming out of Tennessee”.

Here are some other former Vols of note that had good nights:

  • Tyler Bray (Chicago Bears, QB) — 219 passing yards
  • Nathan Peterman (Buffalo Bills, QB) — 119 passing yards, TD
  • Alvin Kamara (New Orleans Saints, RB) — 11 rushing yards on three attempts
