Former Tennessee Vols offensive coordinator Tyson Helton, now the head coach at Western Kentucky, didn’t spend a lot of time on Jeremy Pruitt’s coaching staff.

But the year that Helton spent in Knoxville was enough time for the former USC quarterbacks coach to form a solid opinion on Pruitt.

Despite rumors that the two coaches weren’t always on the same page, Helton had plenty of good things to say about Pruitt recently.

According to Vols Wire, Helton recently said, via “Tennessee Two-A-Days”, that he “learned a ton” from Pruitt in “all facets”.

Helton added “I think he does a great job at recruiting, he is a relentless recruiter. You don’t have to talk about him as a defensive coach, he’s one of the best in the business”.

The former Vols offensive coordinator also mentioned that he believes Pruitt is knowledgeable in “all aspects of the game”.

Tennessee Vols

So when does Helton expect things to turn around for Tennessee?

Helton, like many folks, knows it’s going to be a long process for Pruitt. After spending a year on Rocky Top, he understands the disarray the program was in when Pruitt took over.

But Helton believes in Pruitt, saying ““He just needs the time to get that thing going. There is no doubt in my mind that he will. He will get it going eventually.”

Helton’s insight into the Tennessee program is probably better than almost anyone else who is willing to freely talk about Pruitt and the Vols.

That’s why I think his comments should be reassuring for a Tennessee fan base searching for answers after a 1-3 start.
