Former Tennessee Vols defensive lineman John Mincey announced in March that he would be entering the transfer portal.

On Tuesday, Mincey tweeted that he’s transferring to Arkansas State to play for former Vols head coach Butch Jones.

Mincey signed with Tennessee in 2018, just a couple of months after Jeremy Pruitt was hired by the Vols to replace Jones as the program’s head coach.

The Georgia native was committed to Arkansas at one point during the recruiting process. He ended up signing with Tennessee over South Carolina.

Mincey never played for Jones at UT, but the two are familiar with each other from Mincey’s recruitment.

Jones’ staff originally offered Mincey in early 2016, when Jones was in the midst of his most successful stretch at Tennessee.

Mincey, who has two years of eligibility remaining, compiled 18 total tackles and one sack during his three seasons on Rocky Top.
