A lot of fans and analysts were surprised when the Tennessee Titans decided to use the No. 19 overall selection in the 2019 NFL Draft on a player who might not contribute this upcoming season.

But there’s a reason the Titans didn’t hesitate to pull the trigger on Mississippi State’s Jeffery Simmons. It’s because he’s a player that Tennessee believes can make a huge impact for years to come in Nashville.

So what is it that separates Simmons from other defensive linemen?

That’s a question that Matt Wyatt answers in an extensive film study on the former Mississippi State standout.

Check it out below.

As you can see in Wyatt’s film study, Simmons’ impressive upper body strength is what makes him such a dangerous defensive weapon. You can see a great example of what Wyatt is talking about at the 8:40 mark in the video.

It’s pretty easy to see why the Titans loved Simmons so much. They essentially were able to get a player with top five game-changing talent in the latter half of the first round. They’re just going to have to display patience while Simmons recovers from his torn ACL.

Sometimes a player is so good he’s worth waiting on.

Simmons is one of those players.
