Tennessee defensive end Derek Barnett will have a big decision to make in the next few weeks.

The junior from Brentwood Academy became the Vols all-time career sack leader, passing NFL Hall of Famer Reggie White. This week, Barnett has been named first team All-American by the Associated Press, among others. With all the accolades and records Barnett now has to decide if he wants to forgo his senior season for the NFL Draft.

Based on NFL Mock Draft projections, Barnett might want to take the leap to the professional ranks.

Derek Barnett NFL Mock Drafts

Barnett looks like a consensus first round pick, according to these mocks by respected draft analysts. Depending on how he tests at the NFL Combine and where NFL scouts see him playing, he could be a Top 10 pick. If Barnett could be considered as an “Edge” rusher fit for a 3-4 outside linebacker his stock could rise. If scouts see Barnett as only being able to be on the defensive line either as a 4-3 end or 3-4 end, Barnett might drop into the mid-first round. Regardless, the Vols All-American will get paid handsomely to play football.
