The Tennessee Vols’ odds to win the SEC in 2020 aren’t great.
Currently, UT is +10000 to win the SEC championship in December.
CBS Sports college football writer Ben Kercheval, however, believes the Vols are being undervalued heading into Jeremy Pruitt’s third season.
Here’s what Kercheval had to say about Tennessee:
The talent Coach Jeremy Pruitt has stockpiled is impressive. The Vols have a legit offensive line with a nice mix of proven veterans and young but promising tackles (Wanya Morris and Darnell Wright were SEC All-Freshman selections). The quarterback room is led by Jarrett Guarantano who, despite his ups and downs, has been good enough but there’s more upside behind him with blue-chip freshman Harrison Bailey. If there’s a Year 3 jump, it’s in part because of the guys Pruitt has recruited.
All of the focus in the SEC East in 2020 is on Florida and Georgia.
But Tennessee is lurking behind those teams as the clear No. 3 team in the SEC East.
The Vols may be an afterthought for most college football analysts in 2020, but we’ve seen situations like this before where a team surprises folks and steals the division (Missouri in 2013 for example).
Tennessee isn’t expected to “arrive” until at least Pruitt’s fourth season on Rocky Top.
But it’s certainly possible that UT could shock everyone and become a major factor in the race for the SEC crown in 2020 (especially with the stout offensive line the Vols will have this season).
Why not the Vols this season?
