The series between the Philadelphia 76ers and Atlanta Hawks has changed. Thanks to 74 first half points in game one, the Hawks took game one but it has been different ever since. The 76ers have figured out how to shut down the Hawks offense and Joel Embiid has been able to do whatever he wants. That has been the case in the last two games and it will continue tonight.

The Pick: 76ers -3 (-110)

The Why: Embiid and Defense

Let’s be very honest, the Hawks are a good young team with a ton of potential however, the 76ers are a terrible matchup for them. The 76ers have a lot of size and length that has been able to shut down the three point line for the Hawks. Ever since hitting 20 threes in game one, the Hawks are 17-53 from behind the arc. The key for the Hawks and winning games in this series is to knock down threes, but that has been stopped. Now they have to try and slow down Joel Embiid, which is something they have not done.

In three games this series, Embiid is averaging 35 PPG and has been unstoppable when he is on the floor. Clint Capela has not been able to do anything so the Hawks have had to double and triple team Embiid. That is allowing the other 76ers scorers like Seth Curry, Tobbias Harris and other the point shooters open looks, which they are knocking down. The Hawks are shooting 42% from behind the arc in this series. With the Hawks having to double and triple team Embiid to slow him down, and they’re not even doing that, the 76ers shooters will continue to knock down open looks. Also, the Hawks have not had an answer for Tobias Harris.

Embiid is the only player that matters right now in this series, so we’re going to back him and lay the small number with the 76ers. In think this is a really good number to get with the 76ers after they have won the last two games in dominant fashion. I expect the 76ers ti not have much of an issue tonight. They might not win as dominantly but they’ll cover this small number.

Trends We’re Betting On

76ers are 4-1 ATS in the last 5 against the Hawks

76ers are 11-4-1 ATS in their last 16 road games as a favorite

76ers are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 playoff games as the favorite

Hawks are 1-5 in their last 6 games on Monday

Yesterday’s Pick: Nets -2

We’re just going to chalk this one up to the injury of Kyrie Irving. They were up most of the first half then he went out and it was all Bucks from there. Back at it today.
