This series between the Philadelphia 76ers and Atlanta Hawks is one that fascinates me. Are the 76ers ready to make a deep run to the finals? Is Trae Young going to continue to set the league on fire? The 76ers are coming into the game after taking care of the Wizards in five games, and it came without Joel Embiid due to an injury. The Atlanta Hawks made easy work of the Knicks by beating them in five games too. The 76ers took the season series from the Hawks. This could be another series that ends quickly.
The Pick: 76ers -3.5 (-110)
The Why: No Embiid, No Problem
Let me start with this, I am very happy with the number that we’re getting on this game with Joel Embiid is listed as questionable. I think if Embiid was defiently playing this line would be at least three points higher. I don’t have a great read on if Embiid is going to suit up, but I think at the end of the day it shouldn’t matter. In the last series when Embiid went out, the 76ers almost finished off the Wizards in game four, but in game five they crushed the Wizards to get the series win.
This team is use to Embiid being out. He only played 51 games this year, so players like Tobias Harris and Ben Simmons know what to do without the best players in the lineup. In game five vs the Wizards, Harris scored 28 and Simmons scored 19 but totaled a triple double. Seth Curry is also a guy that steps up as he scored 30.
It’s simple, Embiid is a key part to the 76ers team, but they have been without him enough to understand that they can still win games. The 76ers should be able to slow down Trae Young and force the Hawks role players to beat them. That was one thing the Knicks could not do. The 76ers play really good team defense. They ranked third in the league in team defense during the regular season. Guys like Curry and Simmons should be able to contain Young and limit his offensive output.
All in all, we’re going to lay the small chalk with the 76ers. Even if Embiid is not playing, this line is too small to scare us away. The Hawks are a good young team but I like Tobias Harris, Ben Simmons and Seth Curry a lot more over the Hawks young players. Don’t worry about Embiid potentially not playing. The 76ers will have more than enough to cover this small spread.
Trends We’re Betting On
76ers have covered 5 of their last 7 ATS
76ers are 10-0 at home in the last 10
76ers are 5-1 ATS in the last 6 home games played against the Hawks
Hawks are 18-20-1 ATS on the road
Yesterday’s Pick: Nets -4 💰
I love hitting a bet where everyone else is betting on the other side. When James Harden went out in the first minute of the game, I thought we were in trouble. Kevin Durant was unstopable and the Nets’ role players showed up and played well. This turned out to be a easy win.
