Watkins is a 6-foot-3/180 pound recruit from Nashville, TN (East Nashville Magnet School). He’s rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 12 player in the state of Tennessee and the No. 24 athlete in the nation.
Honestly, I’m not sure Watkins has the instincts to play defensive back. While he has great length, I think he projects better as a wide receiver.
As you can see in that short clip, Watkins looks a bit unnatural in his backpedal. Obviously there could be some fine tuning there from Jeremy Pruitt and his staff, but on first glance it seems he’d be a better fit on the offensive side of the ball.
Watkins visited Tennessee in early March.
The Volunteers currently have eight commits to their 2019 recruiting class, which is rated No. 20 in the nation at the moment.
